Following an incident occurring at a Tank Farm of one of Elite’s key clients, it was highlighted that their whisky supply system can be left unattended during specific times (lunch break/night shift/weekends).
During these periods, it was discovered that a high risk of missing critical alarms is present. Our client required a solution to alert key personnel of the plant immediately when any of the critical alarms is active.
The Elite proposed solution involved the use of a cost-effective, secure, remote connection to read the alarms from the existing Siemens S7-400 PLC. The system had to work independently from the client’s main SCADA system and if an alarm was detected, an SMS text message had to be sent to both the C&E Engineer and the Engineering Manager.
Due to the critical nature of the plant operation, this work had to be fully implemented with no impact to the plant operations.
As a result of the successful implementation of this project, our customer now has a robust and enhanced alarm monitoring system. They can now identify situations (e.g. power cuts during weekends) where they were previously unaware that some alarms had been triggering.

Elite Controls are happy to announce the completion of several maintenance activities for a large oil and gas conglomerate on an oilfield platform located in the Caspian Sea.
The platform is approximately 120km east of the Azerbaijan capital Baku, and has been in operation since 1997, requiring routine maintenance in its outage periods.
The maintenance work involved replacing & testing faulty high-integrity control modules on the platform for the fire and gas safety system. In addition, a survey of the system’s power supplies, processors and Ethernet network were also carried out. These investigations will allow Elite to provide recommendations for further maintenance and modifications to be carried out in a larger scale platform outage planned for 2021.

Elite were invited to present at the CENSIS Cyber IoT Cyber Security Programme.
Sharing the “stage” with Siemens Industrial Security and Safety Services Manager Paul Hingley, Elite’s own Colin Crosbie provided a pragmatic, insightful and highly informed overview of Cyber threats and best practice design considerations facing all of our major manufacturers today.
In these challenging times, keeping personally safe is very much to the fore in all our minds however, with ever increasing needs around remote working and an increased use of new technologies, making sure that our critical industrial base is also equally safe from Cyber threats has never been more pressing.
CENSIS is the National Innovation Centre for sensing, imaging and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies; they are tasked with raising industry awareness of this critical and ever more important subject as part of the IoT Cyber Challenge Program.
