Elite Control Systems’ Engineering Support Services Now Reaches Almost 60 Sites Globally

ELITE CONTROL SYSTEMS’ ENGINEERING SUPPORT SERVICES NOW REACHES ALMOST 60 SITES GLOBALLY

Livingston, Scotland- 7th August 2017– Elite Control Systems, a leading provider of Systems Integration and Support Services, is delighted to announce that as a result of increased demand for its Engineering Support Services, it now supports almost 60 individual sites globally across a range of Industries including: Oil and Gas, Distilling and Bottling, Power, Food and Beverage and Manufacturing.

Expanding its engineering support services.

Elite Control Systems initially began supporting systems specifically designed by Elite’s own Systems Engineers. However, because of increasing demand for engineering support services, Elite now has a dedicated support department. This department now covers everything from supporting a range of complex systems in a multitude of industries, to 24/7 emergency call out response, Site Audits, Obsolescence Audits and much more.

New ticketing system ‘EPiTrack’ developed to monitor support calls and performance.

With the number of Support Contracts increasing every year, and the desire to continually improve performance, Elite’s engineers have developed a new digital support ticketing system called “EPiTrack”. This system is designed to keep users and clients up to date during specific jobs by continually tracking progress and providing up to date information whilst also providing monthly reports where required.

“EPiTrack” is tailor made for Elite’s clients, and as mentioned above will provide management with reports that includes exact information on the type of call received; the details of the dedicated support engineer; what work was carried out; the type of solution provided; and finally, how long the entire process has taken from callout to completion.

ELITE CONTROL SYSTEMS COMPLETES WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR TARMAC, DUNBAR

Unmanned Stacker-Reclaimer Machine Now Monitored Wirelessly

LIVINGSTON, Scotland – 19th June 2017 Elite Control Systems is delighted to announce the use of wireless technology to provide a solution for one of its key clients. The wireless system was installed on their large Stacker and Reclaimer machines located in a remote part of Tarmac’s Dunbar site in Scotland.

Plant operations
Raw material is transferred from the quarry on to the conveyor system that feeds into the Stacker. As the name suggests, this machine stacks the product in an even pile in readiness for future reclamation by the Reclaimer which feeds the Raw Mill. The un-manned Stacker and Reclaimer machines are located in a fairly remote area of the cement works and travel along a rail track creating a consistent accumulation of raw material.  The Stacker will continue to transfer the raw material into a uniform stockpile until it senses that the level of product has reached its required height. Once a pile has been built, it will be reclaimed by the Reclaimer and mixed with other raw materials before being ground into a raw meal in the Raw Mill.

Tarmac’s Stacker in operation

New technology offers reliable wireless communication
When Tarmac asked Elite Control Systems to assist Siemens in providing them with a way to monitor the Stacker and Reclaimer’s activities through the plants existing control system, Elite devised a custom solution. The standard way of connecting to a remote machine such as Tarmac’s Stacker and Reclaimer, would normally involve running new cables in what can often be considered as an expensive and disruptive installation procedure. By utilising a wireless solution, most of this type of installation work was not required. The application did call for a thorough preliminary assessment involving an initial wireless audit. This was essential to ensure that the wireless solution could be implemented successfully in this instance.

Working closely alongside the manufacturer of the wireless equipment, Elite Control Systems carried out the wireless assessment of the area where the new system would be installed. Elite then proceeded to install the specified Siemens Scalance™ wireless communication system.

In this instance, the appropriate Industrial Wireless LAN (Scalance W786) components that comply with the required IEEE 802 standards were installed.

This work involved mounting the necessary wireless communication equipment at suitable points on both the plant, and the Stacker and Reclaimer.  These devices continuously transmit signals directly from the machines. This effectively provides the necessary status information and makes it possible for plant engineers to remotely monitor the desired machine parameters.  By further integrating this system into Tarmac’s existing site network, the Stacker and Reclaimers status is now able to be visually displayed in the main PCS7 system control room.

Celebrating 20 Years
Elite began supporting Tarmac in 1997 when it was known as Blue Circle.  “Over the past 20 years, we have provided the Dunbar cement works with both process control automation software and technical support.  This latest project marks a significant milestone by introducing the many benefits of wireless communication,” said Ewan McAllister, Technical Director for Elite Control Systems. “By converting the Stacker and Reclaimer to state-of-the-art wireless communication, Tarmac can now remotely monitor the required parameters and the status of the machine. In addition, this has been made possible without going to the expense and disruption of a major cable installation. We are sure that this winning solution will serve Tarmac for many years to come.”

Elite Set to Celebrate 25 Years in Business

It’s that time of year again when Christmas is fast approaching, and the new year is just around the corner.

2017 is going to be a very special year for Elite Control Systems ltd, as it is the 25th Anniversary of the Company.

Elite Control Systems was formed by Elite’s Managing Director Sam Mackay and his business partner, Technical Director Ewan McAllister. The business was established in 1992, and started off as a single office in Bathgate. Elite Control Systems soon expanded, before moving to a purpose built facility in Livingston in 1998. Due to the growing success of the company, and the increasing demand for more staff, the facility had doubled in size by 2004.

Elite have always been focused on client retention, which is why many of Elite’s Clients are loyal, some even as far back as 1992, when the business was first established.

Elite have many great achievements to be proud of over the years, which is why they are considered to be one of the top System Integrators in Scotland. An excellent example is when Elite were the first System Integration company to achieve ISO9001:TickIT status through the British Standard’s institute (BSI) Small Business scheme.

In 2000, Control and Automation engineers within Elite developed “Asset Guardian”, a documentation control solution for in-house use by a major Scottish Based Power Company. This was so successful the first commercial sale of Asset Guardian took place in 2004- Asset Guardian Solutions Limited was born and in the same year Elite went onto winning “West Lothian Business of the Year.”

The company have always believed in the benefits of Partnerships from as far back as 1992 and this underpins the company’s ethos of “Promoting Performance through Partnerships”.

“We have always strived to produce the highest quality solutions for our clients and by doing this we have retained many of the clients whom we have worked with from as far back as when the company started in 1992. We do this by using the most relevant pioneering tools available both to develop and test our solutions. The company now employs some of the best engineers, management and staff available from around the world. Many of our colleagues have been with the company now for 15-20 years.” Ewan McAllister, Technical Director- Elite Control Systems

“ Elite have firmly established themselves over the past 25 years as a first class System Integrator, providing automation Solutions in a diverse range of Industries” – Brian Sneddon, General Manager- Elite Control Systems

From everyone at Elite, we would like to thank all of our Suppliers and Clients, because without them, the company wouldn’t be where it is today. Here’s to the next 25 years!

Rapid Response Support Services Ensure
29 Wind Farms Operate Smoothly, Without Disruption

LIVINGSTON, Scotland – 24th November 2016- Elite Control Systems is proud to announce that it has been awarded a second contract by ScottishPower Renewables. The agreement requires Elite Control Systems to continue to supply rapid response support services for the 29 onshore wind systems that ScottishPower Renewables operates across Scotland.

ScottishPower Renewables, which has invested significantly in industry-leading automation and control system technology to operate its wind turbines, looks to Elite Control Systems to ensure that the automated process control systems it uses are functioning properly, around the clock.  To achieve this, Elite Control Systems’ dedicated Support Services stands ready to respond to control system events that could disrupt operation.

Elite will respond immediately to any type of control system issue, from PLC failures to hardware or network communications problems,” said Juan Carlos Di Bella, Engineering Manager for Elite Control Systems.  “Given the high profile and sheer scale of the wind farm network, it’s extremely satisfying that ScottishPower Renewables has renewed its existing support contract with us.  The confidence they have in our expertise and responsiveness is clear.  They can rest assured that we are only a phone call away, ready to provide them with immediate support for these systems that are so critical to the entire ScottishPower Renewables network.”

Elite Control Systems has been providing ongoing rapid response control support services to ScottishPower Renewables since 2015 when the two companies entered into the initial agreement.  However, their working relationship goes back to 2013.  Since then, Elite Control Systems has provided the company with wind turbine networking gear upgrades and conducted an extensive audit of its current control infrastructure.

Dedicated Support Services division supports growing portfolio

In addition to Scottish Power Renewables, Elite Control Systems’ Support Services division provides similar support to Amazon UK, Diageo Distilling, Glenmorangie Ltd and INEOS.

The company’s engineering team is fully briefed on every customer’s needs, and is on-hand around the clock.  Whether a customer has a comprehensive 24/7 support plan in place or is on an ad hoc call-out basis, Elite engineers are ready to respond so that production is up and running as quickly as possible.

The recent addition of Vibration Monitoring and Profibus network health checks to its Support Services portfolio is particularly meaningful because companies can now derive comprehensive support, without going to the expense of creating extensive support teams internally. Companies can access Elite’s engineering expertise, as well as that of its partners who are some of the world’s leading automation and process control manufacturers.

Elite also offers breakdown support for PLC, SCADA, IT systems and network infrastructure, including integrity testing.  Its Support Services engineers also conduct system audits, health checks, minor modifications, and on–the-job training for clients’ employees.
