Assistant to Engineering Project Manager (PM)

We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and hard working individual who is perhaps looking to gain valuable – possibly their first experience – of working in project management.

The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced professional project manager in what will be a demanding support role.

The successful candidate must have experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and ideally some experience of or, show desire to learn report writing.

Experience of dealing with the public / customers would be helpful as would any experience of using or working with project management or customer relationship management tools. (If not experienced in this training will be provided)

The role will involve supporting our Engineering Project Manager with day-to-day activities such as:

  • Maintaining what will become a new web-based project reporting system
  • Help Organise meetings/diaries.
  • Help create project documents including project plans, reports, minutes from internal – and eventually external meetings
  • Keep records of support contract monthly breakdowns (e.g. help prepare project budgets & reconciliation of the same)
  • Regularly communicate and liaise with all project staff and stakeholders, internal and external.

Assistant Pre-Engineering

The successful candidate will work closely with a senior engineer from our Pre-Engineering Team in a varied IT and Control Systems Engineering environment.

  • Supporting the Pre – Engineering Manager, day to day activities will include;
  • Help and input to the design and migration to our new project and contract management system

Working to a senior engineer, become familiar with our company’s wider ICT settings in terms of our Network, our applications (MS 365 Productivity suite) support across the business and general hardware / fault fixing of equipment. (Mainly Laptops and desktops)

The role would suit someone with a broader ICT interest who may also be interested in developing a rewarding career in Technical Pre-Engineering Sales / or, developing a longer term Engineering software or support career in Control Systems and Automation (PLC’s, HMI’s SCADA’s)

Additional Pre-Engineering day-to-day activities support to the Team

  • Help the Team identify customer solutions and source prices / quotes for hardware and software
  • Input / help with simple customer proposals, and contract variations,
  • Maintain and perform daily Customer Relationship Management system updates
  • Monitor customer and pipeline updates, conduct client follow-ups, process client orders.

Systems Engineer (Full Time & Contract Short Term)

Role Description and Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Projects including,

  • PLC programming of control systems and configuration of SCADA.
  • Involvement throughout whole systems lifecycle, from design through coding to testing, installation and configuration, and documentation specifically production of FDS, Software Test Procedures and Site Acceptance Test Procedures.
  • Working within a project team to customer deadlines.
  • Installation and configuration/testing work at customer sites.
  • Site based Testing & Commissioning of the above Systems.


The role is largely office based but it will require periods of working at customers sites, mainly in Scotland but also occasional overseas assignments.


Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Control Systems Engineer with experience in the design and implementation of PLC Control Systems for a variety of industry sectors (including for example, Oil & Gas, Food & Beverages and Energy).
    • Proven experience in mainstream PLC, SCADA and DCS Systems including; Rockwell Automation (ControlLogix PLC, Compact Logix PLC, RS Logix 5/500/5000, Studio 5000)
    • Rockwell Automation Factory Talk View configuration
    • Siemens (TIA Portal, Step 7, Winn CC)
    • Siemens PCS 7
    • Wonderware InTouch SCADA
    • Proficy iFix
    • Profibus / Profinet / Industrial Ethernet
  • Production of Functional Design Specification
  • Production of Schematic Diagrams
  • Production of Software
  • Build of Hardware

Secondary tasks including,

  • Testing, commissioning and support
  • Participating in Design Reviews
